Happy 1st Birthday Alex!!

The birthday "prince"

For some reason he was terrified of this life sized Elmo balloon!

Sometimes the best things do come in big packages!

He wasn't quite sure what to make of everyone looking at him and singing to him. He's looking quite skeptical right about now.

His favorite part of the day...dee-licious!

Too much partying can tucker out even the most energetic of boys (young and old)!

Summer "Vacation?"

I don't know about the rest of you, but I thought summer was supposed to be the time of year when you get to spend time with your family, relaxing and doing fun things. Excuse me as I step up onto my soap box for just a moment...Today's society, I believe, has our kids doing too much to get them to be a)more well rounded or b)better at their sport, instrument, etc. The end result being that too much time is being taken away from family. Case in point, almost as soon as high school softball is over, summer league starts, which isn't officially required, but strongly suggested to get them better for next year. Ok, I can deal with that, but my biggest peeve right now is freakin' football. I only have every other weekend off work, and the past 2 weekends that I've been off, Steve has had some sort of football tournament/camp. Plus they have workouts every weeknight at the school. Can you tell I'm a coach's wife in major burnout mode? We've been going year round with various sports the past 2 years and I'm so in need of a break. Ok, I'm off my soap box now....Anyhoo...

Here's Steph at her summer league game, she had an awesome catch in the outfield.
Here's Alex at the game, putting his newly aquired walking skills to use on the wide open grass.
Yesterday I thought to myself, "Well, if I'm going to have any fun at all this summer, Alex and I will just have to be buddies and make our own fun!" We went to the pool for the first time and he loved it.
Nothin' cuter than a baby in a swim suit "waddling" around.

BUSTED!!!

World record for shortest lived driving privileges: 36 hours
Record holder: Stephenie Lilly

That's right, my sweet little never been grounded a day in her life Stephenie, got her driver's license Monday morning. It was then parentally revoked in the wee hours of Wednesday. I compare her to the character of Frodo from "Lord of the Rings", a good kid who succumbs to the overwhelming power of the ring when putting it on (or the power of the license when putting it in your wallet).

Here's the scene: Lana is at the hospital working a night shift, Steve's at home with the baby, Steph is getting off work...

Steph calls Lana, "Can I please hang out with Aleshia, I haven't seen her since school got out?"
Lana (feeling gererous): "Ok, but be home by 12:15 at the latest."
Steve calls Lana, "It's 12:35, where's Steph?"
Lana calls Steph, "Where are you?"
Steph, "I'm getting in the car right now."
Steve (not sure if he should be frantic or furious), calls Lana, "It's 12:55 where's Steph?"
Lana calls Steph, "WHERE ARE YOU?"

Yada, yada, yada, in a nutshell what it comes down to, is that Steph had been wanting to go visit a boy she met recently who lives on the other side of town. Of course, I say no way are you driving at night to an area you're not familiar with, but Steph and her hormonal teenager self apparently thought she had the perfect plan. Until...she finds herself lost at almost 1:00 in the morning. In the downtown area, a 16 year old girl, alone, lost. Lovely.

Needless to say, I've had a grand time the past few days having round the clock access to Steph's cell phone (which she normally has on her person 24/7 because she knows I like to snoop and read her texts). I'm sure it's killing her (that's my plan, anyways). And, whenever Steve and I choose to reinstate her driving prilileges, hopefully she'll appreciate it that much more.

That being said, I have to confess that I remembered the other day that I pulled almost the same exact stunt when I was a teenager. The lesson learned from this experience: for Steph, 'your parents are a lot smarter than you think'. For me, 'payback is a *!?#%'. For my mom and dad, 'revenge is sweet!!'

Sweet 16

Equation:

4 pulled wisdom teeth + 2 cutting baby teeth divided by 2 miserable kids = 1 tired mama!
(I know Alex doesn't look miserable in this picture, but apparently he was able to shake off the hellish night we had better than I was!)

SERIOUSLY?!!

This is how we spent our first day of "summer" vacation, at a Kearns High Basketball swim party freezing our tushies off. Looks more like it was a ski party the way everyone's all bundled up. Come on Utah, can you cut us a break already?

Dancing With the Stars--Kearns Style

Steve would kill me for posting this, so it's our little secret everyone!

This is from the end of the year assembly at Kearns High last Monday. When Steve told me that he and a few of the faculty were asked to do a dance for the assembly, I figured it'd be some little dance of them acting silly. But I'll tell you, this was quite the production! They all have masks on but Steve is the big guy doing the "crumping" solo. Needless to say, the students went wild over it.
