This is What Happens When a Couple Fails to Communicate...

Alex's hair was getting a bit long. I was still loving his soft curls, but was tired of dealing with the rat's nest in back of his head every time he gets out of bed. So, last night we finally decided to take on the unpleasant task of trying to cut Alex's hair. Steve and I didn't discuss any details of how much to cut off. I, being a typical mother, figured we'd just trim it a bit so that his luscious curls would still be in place. Problem is, I made the mistake of assuming that Steve was on the same page.

Imagine my horror as I watched the electric clippers run across his little head, and I see inches of my baby's curls fall to the floor, leaving nothing more than a "fade" (black people's term) over his little ear. I exclaimed, "Holy freak!" and Steve looked at me with surprise and annoyance as I'm literally trying not to let the tears form. He says, "Well you should've told me if you only wanted a little bit off!" (Oh please! He knew I didn't want it too short!)

So, between me being upset and Alex freaking out about the electric clippers buzzing over his ears..."take it away...please!!", he kept saying, it was (as I completely anticipated) not the most pleasant experiences.

"It will grow back!", Steve kept saying. Yes, I know it will eventually grow back, but in the meantime, he now looks like he's about 4 years old, and I'm so not ok with that!

I have to admit though, he could be completely bald and still be one of the most handsome boys I've ever seen!!
